The Winter of Love

October 13, 1994 — January 8, 1995
P.S.1 The Institute for Contemporary Art (today MoMA/PS1), LIC, New York

After its triumphant success at ARC, Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, l’Hiver de l’amour exhibition, curated by Dike Blair, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Elein Fleiss, Bernard Joisten, and Olivier Zahm, arrived in New York at P.S.1 for its American debut, where, as a newly appointed exhibition coordinator I overviewed the installation of the show. The Winter of Love became a model for future exhibitions as it included artists from different artistic disciplines such as fashion, music, cinema, and architecture. It also featured one of the first performances by Vanessa Beecroft before she turned to professional models and high fashion apparel, an installation by Martin Margiela, and three NY rats (alive!) eating some Bel Paese cheese in a Plexiglass box by Maurizio Cattelan.

Featuring artists: Martine Aballéa, Shuji Ariyoshi, Vanessa Beecroft, Sadie Benning, Dike Blair, Roddy Bogawa, Veronique Boudier, Rebecca Bournigault, Maurizio Cattelan, Mat Collishaw, Philippe Dorain & Serge Comte, Amy Davis, Diabologum, Li Edelkoort, Anders Edstrom, Encore, Jean-Renee de Fleurieu, Ami Garmon & Marianne Dissard, General Idea, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Yves Grenet, Marie-Ange Guilleminot, Fariba Hajamadi, John S.Hall, David Hammons, Markus Hansen, Richie Hawtin, Lothar Hempel, Carsten Höller, Bernard Joisten, Tom Kalin, Richard Kern, Jutta Koether & Tom Verlaine, Alix Lambert, Inez Van Lamsweerde, Claude Levêque, John Lindell, Martin Margiela, Eva Marisaldi, Jon Moritsugu, Jan van Oost, Valerie Pigato, Adrian Piper, David Robbins, Françoise Roche, Allen Ruppersberg, Rene Santos, Julia Sher, Sarah Schwartz, Cindy Smith, Michael Smith & Doug Skinner, Leslie Thornton, Wolfgang Tillmans, Lee Renaldo & Leah Singer, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Vidya & Jean Michel, Jean-Luc Vilmouth and Andrea Zittel.
